Applying to the Institute of Jewish Studies
Program
PBU's application and related forms are available below. Applicants to IJS should
check “Institute
of Jewish Studies” when asked to select a program on
the application. Most important, applicants should know specifically
why they wish to study at the Institute. Space is limited and
application for admittance must be received no later than one
month prior to the anticipated date of entrance. Any disagreement
with the Statement of Faith of the University should be discussed
with the director before application is made.
Students are considered
full-time if they are enrolled in all IJS courses offered
each semester, including the study tour.
Although most IJS students take IJS courses predominantly,
some combine IJS courses with other PBU undergraduate or graduate classes in order to benefit from both programs.
Students not enrolled in every IJS
course offered each
module are considered part-time unless they have received
transfer credit from another institution. In the past,
a number of students have chosen to complete the IJS program
on a part-time basis in order to fulfill other obligations.
Some who live
nearby enroll in each module but take only one or two courses.
Still others take a course periodically, as they are interested.
The
University requires that applicants have a high school
diploma. Graduate Equivalency Diplomas are accepted.
The following information is to be sent to the main campus
before the Admissions Committee can review the student's
application for IJS:
- Completed application along
with $25 application fee (non-refundable) OR complete our online application.
- High school transcript, including all course work
and GPA through the end of the junior year. Final
transcript must be sent prior to enrollment.
- High School Recommendation Form and Pastoral
Reference Form will be sent to the applicant
after the application
is received by the main campus.
- SAT or ACT test score. It is suggested that
the test be taken by October of the senior
year.

Costs and Scholarships
The cost for a full-time student at
IJS is the same as for any full time student attending PBU.
Costs are
broken down into tuition,
which covers the academic area, and room and board,
which applies only to dormitory students. In addition
to these regular costs, IJS students pay
a $125 field trip fee, which covers all the IJS field
trips throughout the year. The Study Tour is not covered
by regular tuition expenses and is an additional expense
(approx. $2,500).
All full-time IJS students are eligible
to apply for federal and
state grants and federal loans. PBU
also offers a range
of scholarships for qualified applicants. To apply for any of these scholarships,
please contact the IJS
academic assistant or the admissions
office at PBU. Our desire is to make IJS as affordable
as possible, recognizing that, ultimately, attending is
a step of faith. Each student must trust the Lord’s
leading to come to IJS. For those who would like to attend
IJS but are not concerned about earning college credit,
auditing is a way of receiving the same classroom experience
but at a very reduced price.
