Continuing Education

Throughout our long history, PBU has been dedicated to teaching the Word of God and training Christians for leadership and service for our Lord Jesus Christ throughout the world. PBU remains committed to assisting the local church as a liaison and resource partner in its mission of salvation to the lost, edification of the believer, and preparation of the church for leadership and service.

StudentThe church today is diverse. It is made up of people with many needsand backgrounds. Complicating matters is the fact that each generation has a different idea of what the church should be. Training the leadership necessary to address the complexities of today's church has in itself become complex. To answer the expanding challenges facing the local church, PBU offers adult continuing education through the Institutes for Higher Learning. IHL is designed...

  • ... to equip teachers and all those in the church who desire personal edification in the Scriptures.
  • ... to equip leaders who are responsible for the creation and oversight of ministries in the local church.
  • ... for men and women desiring training for personal enrichment.

IHL Certificate programs provide an opportunity for ministry development and personal enrichment for both the layman and leadership in the local church. The programs that are available for this academic year are listed to the left. IHL courses are offered at St. Matthew's Baptist Church in Williamstown, NJ.

Courses leading to a certificate of study in a specific area of learning are designed to unite practical application and academic learning. Most certificate programs can be completed within two semesters (one calendar year).

In ClassNon-traditional Schedule

IHL courses and workshops are scheduled with the adult learner in mind. Therefore, courses are offered predominantly on Saturdays. Certificate courses are principally scheduled on back-to-back Saturday's, five hours per day. Refer to the respective program pages for details regarding specific dates and times of upcoming courses.

Eligibility

Students may enroll on a first-come, first-serve basis. Some courses are limited in class size, so early registration is recommended. For certificate courses and most workshops and conferences, no prior college is required–only a willingness to learn. Our adult continuing education student is on average 43 years of age.

Textbooks

Most courses require the purchase of a textbook which is available through the PBU bookstore or the bookstore at Saint Matthew's Baptish Church. The booklist for each course is available here in .pdf format. For both the Old Testament and New Testament certificate programs, the textbooks are part of the Tyndale Commentary series. The completion of these certificate programs will provide the student with a substantial beginning to the ownership of a complete commentary series.

Computer Facilities

As a continuing education student, you will be entitled to limited use of St. Matthew's Baptist Church Ministry Computers.
